I like Black & Decker brands and found this coffee maker to up to The standard. Very pleased.
Ok, I know that this is meant to be a no-frills, simple coffee maker, but the quality of the coffee that it produces is just unacceptable. The spout on my carafe didn't leak, but the carafe, itself, was rather fragile. Like another reviewer wrote, it doesn't heat the water hot enough to make flavorful coffee. So unless you like warm, weak coffee, stay away from this machine. Terrible buy. I'm returning mine tomorrow.

I tried the fast and easy solution, and bought another B&D DCM500. This B&D DCM500 coffee maker is inexpensive and reasonably attractive but next to useless. People have been making pitchers of various kinds for many thousands of years, so I fail to understand why this carafe drips coffee all over the place when you try to pour from it, no matter how careful you are. But then the coffee-maker started leaking dirty water all over my kitchen counter every time I made a pot of coffee. I now keep a small tray under the coffee maker, to collect the dirty water so that it won't continue to make a mess of my counter. I asked another family member to try, thinking I might be doing something wrong, but she did no better.
No such luck. There are two problems, the first of which is a carafe with a very badly designed pouring spout. It was inexpensive, and I thought perhaps I'd simply gotten a dud. I solved that problem by using the 4-cup carafe from my old Mr. Coffee. The second machine worked for maybe a month or two, and then it too began leaking.
In the meantime, I'm looking for a quality replacement.
It's a little smaller than I realized, but works well and fits in the corner of the counter perfectly.
